The origins of the Movado Watch Company began in Switzerland in the year 1881. A young 19-year-old man named Achilles Ditesheim began the company as a small workshop. He hired only six watchmakers to complete the work orders. The name of the company was changed to Movado, meaning "always in motion" in 1905.

In the year 1912, Movado revolutionized the watch industry with its patent polyplan design. The movement was constricted in am unusual way, consisting of three different layers to allow the mechanism to fit in the curved case. This new design followed the curve of the wrist, creating a more comfortable fit.

New Times
The 1930s marked a time of change in the world of watches. It was during this time that Movado introduced its digital watch. These watches were unique because the displayed both the hour and the minutes. In 1946, watches changed once more by displaying calendars and a self-winding feature.

Significance
In the year 1947, Movado introduced the unique single dot design that it is renowned for. This watch was called the "Movado Museum Watch," and was created by Nathan George Horwitt. This single dot represents the sun at high noon.

Movado has a long history of making high quality watches. In 2006, the company celebrated 125 years of watch making. The M125 collection was launched, which celebrates Movado's 125 years of watches. The collection of watches offer distinctive marked with the numbers 1, 2,5 on the front only.
